Go. Be the Change & Be Changed.

We take teams of up to 25 people each year. A mission trip with True Impact Ministries is more than just a journey, it’s an opportunity to serve, grow, and experience God’s work firsthand. Each year, we take a small team to Uganda to build schools, support communities, and bring hope to children in need. But the greatest transformation often happens within our own hearts. We go to serve, but we return forever changed.

Join Us on a Life-Changing Mission Trip to Uganda

Almost every year, we take short-term (2 weeks) mission teams to Uganda to build infrastructure, support communities and bring hope to children in need. Whether constructing a much-needed school, delivering supplies, or simply offering encouragement, these trips are about more than just service, they’re about transformation.

You can’t go on one of these trips and not be changed

We travel to Uganda with the goal of blessing others, but time and time again, it is we who leave deeply blessed, by the warmth of the people, the richness of the culture, and the profound lessons learned.

Who Can Join?

We take 25 people or fewer each year, welcoming volunteers from all walks of life. We’ve had participants as young as 7 years old and as seasoned as 85, each bringing unique gifts and perspectives. While expertise in education, medicine, construction, and music is valuable, it’s not required. The only qualification is a willingness to serve and an openness to new experiences.

What’s Included?

The total cost of our trips is usually under $4,000 per person, covering all expenses except vaccinations and visas. Most team members raise their funds through letters to family and friends or creative fundraising efforts. We’ll guide you through the process and help you every step of the way.

Why Go?

  • Make a Lasting Impact

Help build schools, homes, and essential infrastructure for vulnerable children.

  • Experience a New Culture

Witness the beauty and resilience of Uganda firsthand.

  • Grow in Faith

Step outside your comfort zone and watch how God moves in unexpected ways.

  • Build Lifelong Relationships

Connect with locals, fellow team members, and the children whose lives you’re changing.

If you’ve ever felt a stirring to serve, this is your opportunity. Because as we’ve seen time and again, God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the called.

Past Trips

2020/2021/2022

A Joyful Return and New Beginnings

After two postponed trips in 2020 and 2021, our team was finally able to return to Uganda in 2022 — and it was worth the wait. During the time we were away, our faithful Ugandan partners Patrick and Eva Walusimbi oversaw the construction of a three-room school building, new kitchen, and latrine at Maranatha Schools in Kigalama. When we arrived, we were welcomed by students and teachers joyfully returning to school after nearly two years of closures. At Salem Christian School, students performed a heartfelt play and poem they had written about the pandemic and lockdown—offering powerful insight into their resilience and creativity. Across every location, our team shared crafts, skits, and laughter with the children and watched them perform in return. We also began work on a much-needed security wall at Salem Christian School to help protect students from intruders and wildlife. Heavy rains caused some setbacks, but we remain committed to finishing the project. The trip reminded us of the deep joy and impact that come from showing up in love, no matter the delays.

2019

Planting Roots and Building Futures

In 2019, the True Impact team spent four and a half days in the Mityana region, visiting all four Maranatha Integrated Schools and reconnecting with the children and staff at Salem Children Centre. In a surprise moment of honor, the Mayor of Mityana and Eva from Maranatha Schools invited each team member to plant a tree—each marked with the donor’s name—as a living legacy we can visit in years to come. After crossing the equator, the team spent three days at Truth Christian School, playing with students and helping lay bricks for a new boys’ dormitory. The trip ended with a visit to Murchison Falls and a safari on the Nile River, offering a chance to witness the breathtaking beauty of God’s creation and reflect on His faithfulness throughout the journey.

2018

Joy, Service, and a Lasting Tribute

In 2018, a team of 26 volunteers visited nearly all of True Impact Ministries’ locations in Uganda, spending meaningful time with the children at each home and school. The team led Bible classes, face painting, parachute games, and soccer matches, creating joy and connection across every site. A small medical clinic provided care to those in need, and several suitcases of donated supplies were left behind to support ongoing work. One of the most loved activities this year was bracelet-making—hundreds of friendship and survival bracelets were shared, each one a tangible reminder of love and belonging. The trip culminated in the team’s first visit to Truth Christian School, where they dedicated a newly constructed girls’ dormitory in memory of Susie Stewart. Her legacy continues to bless others through the generosity and faithfulness of those who support this ministry.

2016

Building, Healing, and Sharing God’s Love

In June 2016, a team of 26 volunteers—from ages 8 to 81—traveled from across the U.S. to serve in Uganda. The team helped construct the second school building at Immanuel Children’s Education Centre, expanding access to Christian education for the community. They also held a medical clinic that served over 1,000 people, offered Bible clubs for children, and poured out love and care in every village they visited. The hospitality from our Ugandan partners was deeply moving, and each team member returned home changed by the experience. We are thankful to all who gave, prayed, and made this mission possible. God’s presence was felt in every moment.

2015

Healing, Building, and Bonding in Uganda

In June 2015, a team of 35 volunteers from across the U.S. traveled to Uganda for an unforgettable time of service, worship, and connection. The core project was the construction of a children’s dormitory at Maranatha Integrated Schools in Nkonya, made possible through God’s provision of $40,000. Team members joined in the work, mixing mortar and laying bricks alongside local builders. In Wandawa, the team hosted a medical clinic that served over 3,000 people in just three days, offering medical care, hygiene and nutrition education, prayer, and Gospel outreach. Children received "Kits for Kids," knapsacks, Bibles, toys, and solar lights, while others experienced the love of Christ through simple acts of kindness. The team visited each of True Impact’s children’s homes and schools, hugged children as they arrived for class, preached in local churches, taught in classrooms, and worshipped together daily. The trip ended with a powerful gathering of both the U.S. Board of Directors and Ugandan partners, united in prayer and planning for the future. It was a trip marked by compassion, community, and God’s continued faithfulness.

2014

Building Classrooms and Community Across Uganda

In 2014, a diverse team of 23 volunteers from Colorado, Texas, Illinois, and Mississippi joined together in Uganda to serve and build lasting relationships. The team’s primary project was constructing the Immanuel Children’s Education Center, a classroom building that now serves both the children living at Immanuel Children’s Home and students from the surrounding community. Team members also visited Maranatha Schools in Mizigo, Nkonya, and Kigalama, as well as Salem Children Centre in Naama and the Michelle & Julia Hoffman Memorial Children’s Home in Njeru. The trip was filled with meaningful connections, powerful worship—including a four-hour church service—and celebration, including Pastor Patrick Walusimbi’s 60th birthday. Team members Sarah Elbing and Marilyn Vlahos extended their stay, continuing to pour into the ministry and its mission.

2013

Expanding Impact in Wandawa

In 2013, a team of 21 passionate volunteers traveled to Uganda—and many continued on to Kenya—to serve, connect, and bless communities across East Africa. In Uganda, the team completed a dormitory addition and installed a water well at Immanuel Children’s Home in Wandawa, providing clean water not only for the children but the entire surrounding community. The team also delivered backpacks and supplies to every sponsored child at Immanuel, the Michelle & Julia Hoffman Memorial Children’s Home, and Salem Children Centre. Visits to Maranatha Christian Schools in Nkonya, Mizigo, and Kigalama deepened relationships and encouraged students and staff alike.

2013

... and Beyond

In Kenya, the team served in the village of Gitombo, distributing musical instruments and visiting a newly completed water project. Throughout the journey, the team was met with open arms, joyful worship, and unforgettable hospitality—a powerful reminder of God’s presence and provision in every step.

2012

Growing the Vision in Kigalama

In 2012, the True Impact team focused on expanding the Maranatha Kigalama campus by adding new classrooms to serve the growing number of students in the community. What began as a modest school had quickly become a place of learning and hope, and these additional classrooms helped create space for even more children to receive a Christ-centered education. The team stood proudly in front of the project, celebrating both the progress made and the lives being transformed through it.

2011

Nourishing Bodies and Vision in Naama

In 2011, True Impact Ministries built a commercial kitchen and completed a water project at the Salem Children Centre in Naama, Uganda. These additions ensured that children received consistent, nutritious meals and had access to safe drinking water—essentials for both health and learning. That same year, Andy Stewart and Larry Shoemaker traveled to Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda on a fact-finding trip to deepen our understanding of regional needs and explore how True Impact could expand its reach with wisdom and purpose.

2010

Investing in Teachers, Strengthening Schools

In 2010, True Impact Ministries built a teacher dormitory for Maranatha Schools in Nkonya, Uganda. By providing safe, on-site housing for educators, we helped create a stable learning environment and strengthened the long-term impact of the school. Supporting teachers is essential to supporting students, and this project ensured both could thrive together in a community grounded in faith and learning.

2009

A New School for Kigalama

In 2009, True Impact Ministries partnered with Maranatha Schools to build a new primary school in the rural village of Kigalama. For the first time, children in this farming community had access to a dedicated space for learning, surrounded by teachers and leaders who believed in their potential. This school became a beacon of hope and opportunity for families who had long prayed for a better future for their children.

2008

Expanding Opportunity in Nkonya

In 2008, True Impact Ministries returned to Nkonya to expand the original Maranatha primary school. This classroom addition created more space for children eager to learn and grow in a Christ-centered environment. With every new brick, more students gained the opportunity to pursue education and a brighter future.

2006

Building a Refuge in Naama

In 2006, True Impact Ministries partnered with Volunteers of Salem Associates Mission in Naama to build a home for orphaned and vulnerable children. Alongside the dormitory, we also constructed a pit latrine and rainwater collection system to ensure safe sanitation and clean water. This project became the foundation of what would grow into the Salem Children Centre—a place where children could experience safety, care, and the love of Christ in the midst of hardship.

2005

Laying the Foundation in Nkonya

In 2005, True Impact Ministries took its very first mission trip to Uganda, partnering with Maranatha Schools to build a primary school, pit latrine, and rainwater collection system in the village of Nkonya. This foundational project marked the beginning of a long-term commitment to providing quality Christian education and basic necessities for children in underserved communities. What began as a single building quickly became a symbol of hope for an entire village.
